Tragic Accident in Egpyt

The crash occurred in Assiut, Egypt.
It is with a heavy heart that we tell you about a shocking tragedy that happened over the weekend in one of our Plan Egypt communities. Last Saturday morning, a school bus on its regular morning route to Bel Adi was tragically hit by a speeding train. This devastating accident has claimed the lives of 53 children and left 16 others in critical condition. Though no Plan sponsored children were affected, many of those involved participated directly in our programs, including projects focused on girls’ empowerment, youth leadership, and education.

Arriving on the scene just a few hours after the crash, Plan volunteers have been working tirelessly to support the families who lost children, as well as those few survivors who are still struggling. We are also working with surrounding communities to provide counseling for young children who must cope and slowly return to their everyday lives.

By supporting the Plan International USA Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, you can help heal lives that are broken and offer hope at a time of unexpected great sadness. Make a donation today and ensure future support for the families affected by horrible tragedies like this accident in Egypt. What better way to give thanks for all that we have in our lives than by giving to those who need it most?
